Middlesborough has cheapest street

Figures from the Land Registry have revealed that the cheapest street in England and Wales is Tower Green in Middlesborough – where houses sell for an average of just £21,290.

Despite booming property prices around the UK, the cheapest properties – which are all in the North of England – have been selling for less than £30,000.

The figures were compiled by mouseprice.com, which re-sells Land Registry data to prospective home buyers, and reveal a continued North-South divide.  An examination of sale prices in streets where at least five properties have been sold since April 2000, reveals that the top 20 cheapest streets in England and Wales are all in either the north-west of England, the North-East, Yorkshire or Humberside. 

Other cheap locations around the country are Clacton-on-Sea, in Essex, where a clutch of super-cheap properties have sold for around £50,000.  Gainsborough in north Lincolnshire provides another pocket of very cheap homes, as have Milton Keynes, the centre of Plymouth, the valleys north-west of Cardiff and Stoke-on-Trent.
