Landlords and tenants enjoy friendly relationship

Buy-to-let property investors are increasingly becoming friends with their tenants, according to new research.

Alliance & Leicester has revealed that ten per cent of renters between the ages of 25 and 34 consider their landlord to be a friend.

A further 18 per cent would send a gift to thank their landlord if they went out of their way to help and 21 per cent said that they spend time chatting with their landlord whenever they drop by or call.

"Contrary to popular belief, landlords can be more friend than foe. It's encouraging that so many landlords and tenants enjoy a good relationship, as this can help ensure any issues of dispute relating to the rented property are settled amicably and on good terms," commented Stephen Leonard, director of mortgages at Alliance & Leicester.

"With so many young tenants living long distances away from their family and friends, it's clearly very useful to have somebody they trust to turn to for support," he continued.

The Association of Residential Lettings Agents recently revealed that rental yields increased in January.ADNFCR-1116-ID-18451070-ADNFCR
