Bristol house prices rise

Bristol is the UK city which saw the largest price growth in 2007, excluding London.

According to figures from email4property, Bristol saw house prices increase by 9.2 per cent.

That took the average property price to £204,374, up on the £186,944 figure recorded in 2006.

David Bexon, managing director of email4property, pointed out that extensive regeneration is behind the strong price growth figures.

"Since the turn of the century, many of the major towns and cities throughout the country have experienced large-scale regeneration in a bid to shed old images and re-brand in keeping with the capital," he commented.

"While seasoned investors will end the year relatively unscathed, new investors may find mortgages in short supply and larger deposits required.

"If uncertainty brings greater research or more careful borrowing, before buying a property, this can only benefit the housing market over the next few years," added Mr Bexon.

Email4property also revealed that terraced homes dominated the housing mix in Bristol, accounting for 43 per cent of sales in 2007.ADNFCR-1116-ID-18403311-ADNFCR
