TV's Allsopp heads housing review

TV's Allsopp heads housing review

Television property guru Kirstie Allsopp is to work with the Conservative Party on a review of the UK housing market.

Ms Allsopp will lead the review while working alongside shadow housing minister Grant Shapps.

The aim of the review is to find ways of making it easier for first-time buyers (FTBs) to get onto the property ladder, while also rejuvenating the market.

"It's fantastic that Kirstie is going to help us. What we want to do is make home buying or selling much less stressful and hassled than it currently is," Mr Shapps told the Guardian.

"We don't need a raft of new legislation to do this, just some common sense to see how the process can be simplified," he added.

Ms Allsopp told the Observer that her decision to head the review has little to do with political persuasion but a great deal to do with her desire to see changes within the housing market.

"I vote home-buyer, it's as simple as that. I think I have a responsibility to do this. I'll go with the politicians who make this process easier, because at the moment it is massively stressful for people," she said.ADNFCR-1116-ID-18326173-ADNFCR
